AI calorie counter: snap a photo, get calories and macros
Food tracking guides

The quick answer
An AI calorie counter estimates the food, portion, calories and macros from a meal photo. CalQuest lets you review and edit the result before saving it, then earn XP through daily quests. It is free on iPhone and Android, with limited daily scan energy, ads and optional PRO.
Try CalQuest for freeHow the photo scan works
CalQuest is an AI calorie counter for iPhone and Android. Take a photo of your meal and Cal, the CalQuest mascot, estimates the food, portion, calories and macros. You check the result, fix anything that looks off and add it to your log.
- Snap your meal. Take a photo or pick one from your gallery, aimed at the centre of the plate.
- Tell Cal more if you like. Add an optional note such as skimmed milk, two sugars or fried in butter to cover what a photo cannot show.
- Review and save. Cal breaks the meal down into ingredients with calories, protein, carbs and fat. Edit the food name, serving or nutrition details, then add it to your log.
What a photo can and cannot tell
An AI estimate is a starting point. A photo cannot see the oil in the pan, the sugar in a sauce or what is hidden inside a wrap. CalQuest shows you the estimate before it is saved and lets you change it.
Review the identified foods and serving sizes before adding a meal to your log. Adding a note about the cooking method or ingredients gives the scan more context, but it does not turn a visual estimate into a measured result.
What is free
Downloading CalQuest is free, and so is the daily loop: logging, daily quests, streaks and monthly leagues. Photo scans use limited scan energy that refills each day. If you run out, wait for a refill or use available extra-scan options, such as a rewarded ad or in-app diamonds.
No photo handy? Enter the meal manually or log it again from Recent foods or Favourites. CalQuest has ads. PRO is an optional subscription for unlimited photo scans, subject to fair use. You do not need PRO to use your daily free scan energy.
Why it keeps you logging
Counting calories is easy to start and easy to drop. CalQuest turns each log into progress: meals and healthy actions complete daily quests and earn XP, your streak grows for every day you open the app, and your XP moves you up a monthly league. Finish in a promotion place to move up for the next month.
These features give you another reason to return to your food diary. Start with your next meal and decide whether the combination of photo logging and quests fits your routine.
Works with your health apps
Optional health sync reads your steps, sleep, exercise and weight from Apple Health on iPhone or Health Connect on Android. CalQuest never writes to your health app. Sync is off by default, and you choose whether to grant access.
