The quick answer

CalQuest's policy says food photos are uploaded to cloud storage, sent with scan notes to OpenAI after permission, and stored for meal history. Food names, including manual entries, have a separate OpenAI translation flow. League players cannot see your food records. Account deletion covers personal data within 30 days with legal exceptions, while analytics and crash reports may be retained longer.

Where a CalQuest meal photo goes

CalQuest's privacy policy says meal photos are uploaded to cloud storage, sent with any scan note to OpenAI for nutrition analysis, and stored so you can view meal history. The app asks for permission before sending your first photo.

The policy identifies Supabase as the provider for account data, the database and photo storage. A CalQuest scan is therefore a cloud-processing workflow. Before using it, consider whether the meal image or note includes details beyond the food you intended to analyse.

Manual entry has a separate food-name translation step

The photo permission is not the whole data flow. CalQuest's policy says the names of every logged food are sent to OpenAI for translation, including foods entered manually. For part of a meal, the parent meal name may also be included.

The policy describes that translation as separate from photo analysis and says account details, photos and other logs are not included in the translation request. Choosing manual entry avoids sending a new scan photo, but it does not mean food names stay entirely on the phone.

Distinguish meal storage, health sync and league visibility

Other league players can see your game profile, including display name, profile photo, level, XP, streak, division, badges and PRO status. The policy says they cannot see your food, weight or health records. Review the public profile separately from deciding whether to upload a meal.

Optional Apple Health or Health Connect sync is off until enabled with permission. CalQuest says it only reads those services and stores imported data in your account for the supported features. Device permissions, meal-photo consent and public league information are separate choices to review.

Understand photo deletion and account deletion

The policy says you can delete a food photo at any time. It also describes account deletion through Settings and the account-deletion page. Account deletion covers personal account data, logs and food photos within 30 days, except records that must be kept by law.

That statement is not a promise that every related record disappears instantly. The policy says analytics events and crash reports may be retained longer. Read the current policy for the full account, advertising, analytics and support details, rather than treating photo deletion as a summary of every data category.

A practical privacy check before your next scan

Hypothetical example: a lunch photo also shows a receipt with a name and an office document. Retake or reframe the image around the meal before uploading. This reduces unrelated content in that particular image; it is not a claim about automatic redaction in CalQuest.

Keep scan notes about the meal and use the support contact in the privacy policy for questions about access or deletion. This article does not establish a universal retention period for processors or claim that stored data is automatically anonymous.

  1. Frame the meal without unrelated people, documents or identifying labels.
  2. Read the first-photo permission before agreeing to analysis.
  3. Remember that logged food names have a separate translation flow.
  4. Review your league display name and profile photo.
  5. Use photo or account deletion as appropriate, and read the stated retention limits.

Frequently asked questions

No. The privacy policy describes uploading photos to cloud storage and sending the photo and scan note to OpenAI for analysis.
Does manual entry avoid all AI processing?

Can other league players see my food photos?
The policy says league players cannot see your food, weight or health records. They can see the game-profile information listed in the policy.
Does deleting my account erase everything immediately?
The policy describes personal-data deletion within 30 days, with legal exceptions. It also says analytics events and crash reports may be retained longer.
