The quick answer

CalQuest is a WeightWatchers alternative if you want a calorie and macro diary with quests instead of following the WW Points programme. It supports editable photo estimates, limited free daily scan energy, ads and optional PRO. WeightWatchers also offers photo tracking, barcode tools and programme support. CalQuest does not calculate WW Points or replace coaching, workshops, prescribed care or a programme you rely on.

Choose the framework before choosing the camera

WeightWatchers uses Points as its programme framework. Its UK guidance documents a Food Scanner that estimates Points from meal photos and lets you adjust recognised foods and portions. Photo logging therefore is not a feature exclusive to a WW alternative.

CalQuest records estimated calories, protein, carbohydrates and fat. It does not calculate WW Points or apply ZeroPoint rules. Moving from WW to CalQuest is a change in how you interpret a food diary, not just a different camera screen. Choose the framework you actually want to use before comparing game features.

The same lunch can produce a different kind of record

Imagine lunch is a bowl of chicken, rice, vegetables and dressing. In CalQuest, photograph it, note the dressing or cooking oil, then review the estimated food portions and macros. Save after correcting what you know. This is a hypothetical workflow, not a calorie calculation or a test of either app.

You would then interpret that record through calories and macros, rather than a remaining Points budget. Do not convert a remembered Points value into calories or assume that a ZeroPoint food has no energy. If you prefer the WW framework and its rules make daily choices easier for you, keeping it is a sensible choice.

Who should keep WeightWatchers?

Keep the relevant WW membership if its programme, workshops or coaching provide the structure you want. CalQuest is not an equivalent support programme. If you receive prescribed care or professional guidance, changing your food diary should not replace that relationship or its instructions.

Consider CalQuest when you independently choose your meals and want a calorie record with a different reason to return each day. It works on iPhone and Android and includes manual entry and Recent/Favourites. Free scan energy refills daily with limits; ads and optional PRO are part of the app. PRO provides unlimited scans, subject to fair use. Barcode and nutrition-label scanning are not available.

How to try a calorie diary without confusing the systems

A trial should clarify whether you prefer calories and macros. It does not promise a transfer of WW history or an automatic conversion of Points into CalQuest entries.

  1. Write down why you want a change: logging flow, calorie visibility or daily motivation.
  2. Keep any needed support and records available through the original service.
  3. Enter one familiar meal in CalQuest and review the ingredients and portions.
  4. Test a packaged food manually so you understand the barcode tradeoff.
  5. Check daily scan energy and manage any existing membership separately if you decide to switch.

Frequently asked questions

Does CalQuest calculate WeightWatchers Points?
No. It tracks calorie and macro estimates and does not reproduce WW Points or ZeroPoint rules.
Is CalQuest a free WW alternative?
It is a food-diary option with limited free daily scan energy and ads. It is not an equivalent free WW programme or coaching membership.
Does WeightWatchers already have photo logging?
Yes. Its official UK Food Scanner guidance describes photo-based Points estimates with food and portion adjustments. Check availability in your market.
Can I replace workshops or coaching with CalQuest quests?
Quests are game features around logging. They are not professional coaching, workshops or a substitute for prescribed care.
