Restore purchases vs food history: two separate calorie-app checks

Food tracking guides

The quick answer

Restoring a purchase concerns access to an eligible paid feature or subscription. It does not automatically restore meal history, photos, notes or favourites. Check the store account that bought the item and the food-tracker account that holds the diary as separate identities. CalQuest includes a restore-purchases action in its app text, but this guide promises no purchase outcome or history recovery. Verify the displayed entitlement and actual diary records before deciding what is missing.

Name the thing you want to recover

A missing PRO badge and a missing month of lunches are different problems. One concerns a purchase entitlement; the other concerns personal records. A restore-purchases action is not a general undo button for every item that disappeared after a phone change, reinstall or sign-in. Start by writing down the exact result you expected and the evidence you currently see.

Apple explains that some non-consumable in-app purchases and subscriptions may be restorable, while consumable items cannot be restored in the same way. Google provides separate guidance for problems with in-app purchases and for reinstalling purchased apps. Those categories do not establish whether a food diary is backed up, which account holds its records or how the developer recovers missing history.

Check the purchase account and diary account separately

For an App Store purchase, Apple tells users to check the Apple Account used to buy the item. Google likewise explains that previously purchased apps need the purchasing Google Account. Check the receipt or current store record to identify the account and provider involved. Do not assume that the address shown inside a tracker must be the one that paid for it.

Then check the sign-in method inside the food tracker. The app account may hold meal data independently of store billing. If you changed phones or signed in through another provider, record that difference before creating new records. This guide does not advise sharing passwords or full payment details with support. Provide the relevant purchase reference through the official route when requested, and keep diary identification separate.

Use separate checks for access and records

The following outcomes can occur independently. A successful result in one row does not complete the other rows.

Use a small diary sample to assess history

Choose a recent breakfast, an older dinner and a photo entry that you recognise. Check the dates, food, portion, units and any note that matters. If those records appear, you have useful evidence that this sample is available. You have not established a complete archive. If one is absent, record the missing date and item rather than immediately rebuilding the whole month.

Keep the original device or existing record available while the issue is investigated when practical. A reinstalled app icon does not establish that its personal data has returned. Google says not every app can back up or restore all data; Apple also notes that third-party data may need to download again from its provider. Ask the developer which supported route applies to your account.

Keep CalQuest restoration claims narrow

CalQuest's English app text includes a restore-purchases action and success or failure messages. That supports looking for the current purchase-restoration route in the app, without inventing a menu path. It does not justify a guarantee that every purchase will restore, that a failed attempt will fix itself or that an Apple purchase automatically transfers to another billing platform.

Its policy separately describes account logs and cloud food-photo storage. Check meal records independently of any PRO confirmation. This guide makes no automatic backup, CSV export, competitor import or food-history restoration promise. Free photo energy is limited, ads are included and optional PRO is subject to fair use. Those access conditions do not settle the status of a particular charge or missing entry.

A hypothetical restore that leaves history unresolved

Imagine the app recognises a paid entitlement on a new phone, but last month's dinners are absent. Record the restored access as one successful check. Then confirm the in-app account, inspect known diary dates and ask support about the missing records. Repeating purchase restoration is not evidence that the diary recovery route has been attempted.

  1. Describe whether paid access, personal records or both are missing.
  2. Identify the billing provider and purchasing account from the receipt.
  3. Use the app's current eligible-purchase restoration instructions.
  4. Check the displayed entitlement and diary account independently.
  5. Compare a small sample of known meals and record specific gaps.
  6. Ask the official support route about the unresolved result without assuming a refund or recovery guarantee.

Frequently asked questions

Does Restore Purchases restore my meals?
Do not assume so. It concerns eligible paid access. Meal history, photos and notes need their own account and record checks.
Can every in-app purchase be restored?
No. Apple distinguishes restorable purchase types from consumables. Eligibility and the supported process depend on the purchase and platform.
What if PRO returns but my diary is empty?
Treat access as one result and investigate history separately. Check the in-app account and known diary dates before re-entering old meals.
Should I buy PRO again to recover history?
First resolve the purchase and account questions with the official support route. Another purchase does not establish that personal records will return.
Does a restore error confirm a refund or cancelled renewal?
No. Restoration, subscription status and a refund are separate outcomes. Check the relevant provider's actual records and instructions.
